President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived back from the 70th UN General Assembly in New York on September 1, 2015 accompanied by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.

Uhuru was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by top government officials, led by Deputy President William Ruto, shortly before midnight.

At the UN General Assembly, the President chaired several high-level meetings as part of the Post 2015 Development Agenda.

He addressed the UN General Assembly on the evening of September 28, putting emphasis on regional security efforts in which Kenya plays a prominent role.

The president held a series of bilateral meetings with heads of state and governments including Chinese President Xi Jinping, UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister Stefan Lofven of Sweden.

President Uhuru also held meetings with leaders from the Caribbean region to discuss Kenya’s bid to amend a controversial rule of the International Criminal Court, among other bilateral issues of mutual interest.

Uhuru used the trip to seek support from two Caribbean nations in Kenya’s push to amend a controversial International Criminal Court (ICC) rule at the next Assembly of State Parties in November, 2015.
