Gun drama as cop nabbed with Sh1.2 million rhino horns in South B

A cop was allegedly nabbed transporting rhino horns worth Sh1.2 million in South B, Nairobi on Monday evening.

There was drama as Constable Henry Onsongo and two accomplishes brandished weapons at officers who had been trailing them.

Police and Kenya Wildlife Service rangers pursued them following a tip-off from the public.

Nairobi police boss Benson Kibui said Onsongo and his accomplices will be charged in court on Tuesday.

Onsongo is attached to Industrial Area police station.

KWS said four rhinos were killed for their horns in 2014, in one of the worst poaching incidents in more than 25 years. Fifty nine were killed in 2013.

Parliament passed strict anti-poaching laws and the government beefed up security at parks to stop the vice threatening the tourism industry.
