Viona Shina Leboo, a Kenyan girl from Loitoktok shines at Harvard

vionasheenaViona Shina Leboo is a third-year student at the Harvard University where she is studying courtesy of Equity Bank’s Young Achievers programme. She wants to save fellow Maa girls from FGM and enable them excel in school as she did in her 2010 KCSE examinations in Uasin Gishu district.

She is beautiful and has got brains, traits that have seen her shine at the prestigious Harvard University in the US. And while campus girls are increasingly shying away from active leadership roles at our universities, the same cannot be said of the beautiful Viona Shina Leboo, a Kenyan girl from Loitoktok.

Viona beat several contestants to be elected students representative in the Faculty of Technology at Harvard which has 914 students.

Asked about challenges she and other black students face, she says, “We have to ensure we pay taxes, keep our visas up to date, perform well in class and compete with the world.”
